The CMS will begin its third pilot program to test which online personal health records vendors meet the needs of Medicare beneficiaries, as well as "whether PHRs can improve health outcomes and lower costs," CMS acting Administrator Kerry Weems said. The one-year program, which will start in Utah and Arizona in January, aims to identify the benefits and disadvantages of PHRs and encourage their use among beneficiaries. The pilot will use as much as two years' worth of claims data from the two states collected by Noridian Administrative Services.
