The Crow Tribe, whose Montana reservation is located on an estimated 9 billion tons of recoverable coal, has finalized a 50-year development agreement with Australian-American Energy to build a $7 billion coal-to-liquids plant. The plant initially would produce 50,000 barrels of diesel and other fuels a day, using coal from a mine the tribe will develop. The Crow eventually will receive up to half of the plant's profits, an amount that could surpass $1 billion a year.
