Responding to Qualcomm's Qchat push-to-talk technology, Motorola has answered with adoption of Open Mobile Alliance's Push-to-Talk over Cellular for CDMA 3G networks, a standard developed three years ago, but considered ready for prime time only with the recent emergence of EV-DO Revision A. Motorola's solution exploits EV-DO's advantages -- low latency and a high-capacity return channel -- to get the quick response times and call clarity needed for next-generation PTT technology, industry watchers say.
