Superintendents of small, rural Nebraska districts sometimes have a hard time filling teaching vacancies as many recent graduates spurn small-town life and veteran teachers look skeptically at the often lower salaries. So, some administrators are starting their searches early, making personal pitches and offering unique benefits such as low-cost housing to potential candidates in the hopes of getting a leg up on better paying or more centrally located districts.
