The Securities and Exchange Commission plans to overhaul its decades-old system for data and filing, the agency said Tuesday. The new Interactive Data Electronic Applications database, or Idea, will eventually replace Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis and Retrieval system, or Edgar. "This isn't just a renaming of Edgar. It's a fundamental change in the way the SEC collects, distributes and manages information," said Chairman Christopher Cox.
