A combination of highly active antiretroviral therapies can boost the immune system of HIV patients, but the treatment may make children born to infected mothers more prone to asthma, U.S. researchers reported. Their study showed that the rate of asthma-drug use among children treated with HAART reached 33.5% by age 13.5, compared with 11.5% in those who did not receive the treatment.
