A new study found allopurinol, a drug that lowers uric acid levels, reduced high blood pressure to normal levels in 20 out of 30 pediatric patients, compared to one out of 30 patients who achieved normal levels with a placebo. Since allopurinol can have adverse side effects and is not indicated for treating high blood pressure, researchers hope the study results will lead to the development of new BP therapies.
