An FDA panel of independent experts is set to reopen the debate on the safety of bisphenol A on Tuesday. The review comes after scientists at the National Institutes of Health said their review of BPA, contrary to an earlier FDA report, raised concern about the chemical's effects on fetuses, infants and children. The American Chemistry Council has defended the chemical, saying, "Many common consumer products that contribute to healthier and safer lives are based on plastics and resins made from bisphenol A, which has a 50-year safety track record."
