Forecasters have warned residents of Galveston, Texas, who ignore evacuation orders that they "may face certain death" as Hurricane Ike hits land. The National Hurricane Center said the Galveston shore will be bombarded by a surge of ocean water 15 to 25 feet high. Forecasters say the storm may intensify to Category 3 or 4 and is following the same path of a 1900 hurricane that killed 8,000 people.
