The International Code Council last week rejected efforts to weaken new requirements to the skyscraper code. The General Services Administration, the federal government's landlord and building manager, and the Building Owners and Managers Association had challenged requirements for additional emergency stairwells and more robust fireproofing. The council voted to strengthen the code by requiring glow-in-the-dark paint in stairwells of all tall buildings, both old and new.
