Given predictions from IDC that the market for carrier Ethernet routing and switching will grow 20.5% this year to $5.15 billion, Alcatel-Lucent and Extreme Networks are each bringing new products to market. Alcatel-Lucent has developed a new router for those looking to move from TDM circuits to Ethernet for mobile backhaul, while Extreme has created the BlackDiamond switch to support high-capacity carrier Ethernet transport.
