The U.S. military is training more psychiatric nurse practitioners to care for the increasing number of soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with traumatic brain injuries and post-traumatic stress disorder. The Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences has created a two-year program for psychiatric NPs that includes clinical rotations to obtain almost 900 hours of experience at Washington, D.C.-area military hospitals.
