On behalf of more than 500 Spirit Airlines pilots, the Air Line Pilots Association filed a federal suit Wednesday alleging the discount carrier is dealing in "bad faith" and seeking to avoid collective bargaining. Spirit has cut about 120 pilots from its payroll over the past three months, including a Sept. 3 furlough of 70 pilots that the union claims violated a 2003 labor contract. "Spirit understands that its pilots are not happy about sharing in cost-saving measures," an airline spokesperson said. "However, as everyone knows, the economics of our industry have changed drastically, thanks to a doubling in fuel prices in the past year."
