The long-awaited launch of Sprint Nextel's Xohm WiMAX network in Baltimore next Monday could shape up as a critical marketing test for the new technology, which still faces many skeptics who prefer the pending 4G as the next-generation platform. The joint venture with Clearwire -- still awaiting government approval -- is expected to charge cell phone subscribers $30 a month -- a promotional price -- with a $25 home-usage package and a $60 WiMAX modem.
