The International Air Transport Association has invited aviation authorities from around the world to Turkey to discuss deregulation of the industry. Airlines say the web of thousands of bilateral treaties, many of which date back to World War II, are grossly expensive and inefficient. "We applaud this IATA initiative and look forward to discussing the huge challenges facing airlines, and seeing if we can find common ground to pursue liberalization," said John Byerly, U.S. deputy assistant secretary of state for transportation affairs.
