The rate of new diabetes cases nearly doubled in the U.S. in the past 10 years, and roughly 90% are Type 2 diabetes, the form linked to obesity, CDC researchers say. Nationally, the rate of new cases climbed from about 5 per 1,000 in the mid-1990s to 9 per 1,000 in the middle of this decade, with the highest rates in the South.
