After some 40% of Connecticut schools failed to make adequate yearly progress under NCLB, state education commissioner Mark K. McQuillan said he believes the federal goals are unattainable. "I think they're just unrealistic. And the evidence shows that's true everywhere in the country," he said. "It's too much to expect of the country to do that kind of fundamental changing in the time frame and with the dollars [the federal government has] provided."
