Domestic airfares in the second quarter reached their highest levels since the government began collecting data 13 years ago. After an 8.1% jump, the average ticket price reached $352, topping a record set in the first quarter of 2001, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. With fuel bills "north of $50 billion" this year, "the carriers had to find ways to offset the cost," a spokesman for the Air Transport Association explained.
