Two Democratic lawmakers are urging the Transportation Department's inspector general to investigate the legality of planned takeoff and landing slot auctions at New York-area airports -- and report any possible violation to the Justice Department. "Your office has the statutory responsibility and duty to investigate potential unlawful behavior and report violations," said Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., and Rep. James Oberstar, D-Minn., in a letter to DOT Inspector General Calvin Scovel. "We are always responsive to congressional requests," Scovel's spokeswoman noted in response to the letter.
