FDA Commissioner Dr. Andrew von Eschenbach unveiled a plan to post more than 60 food and drug regulators abroad in 2009, with specific focus on India, as well as Latin American and Middle Eastern countries. The move, expected to cost about $30 million in its first year, is part of the agency's strategy to bolster product safety. The agency will open its first office in China before the end of 2008, von Eschenbach said.
