The Senate approved the U.S. nuclear trade agreement with India, giving General Electric, Westinghouse Electric and other U.S. companies the opportunity to supply technology and equipment to build India's civilian nuclear infrastructure. Promising he will sign the bill, President George W. Bush said the compact "will strengthen our global nuclear nonproliferation efforts, protect the environment, create jobs and assist India in meeting its growing energy needs in a responsible manner."
