Breast cancer patients starting chemotherapy usually know they face hair loss and nausea but many don't fully understand just how debilitating the therapy can be. Harvard researcher Dr. Michael Hassett says his research found eight serious adverse effects reported by large clinical trials of chemotherapy treatments, including fever or infection, low white-blood cell or platelet counts, and dehydration or electrolyte disorders.
