Divine Chocolate CEO Mark Magers has tried to be a truly sustainable, fair-trade chocolate maker by giving its cocoa farmers from Ghana a stake in the company. His farmers are members of the Kuapa Kokoo co-op, and have taken pride in their work as well as its importance.
Vosges Haut Chocolat sources its chocolate from a Rainforest Alliance organic farmer in the Dominican Republic. Its packaging is made of 100% recycled material, and nearly all purchases made by the company fit its "green oath," says the owner.
Ron Ream, the inventor responsible for Bubble Tape and Bart Simpson chewing gums, recently took a more serious route. His company, Marketright, recently launched Stay Alert Gum, a caffeine product for soldiers in Iraq.
The Jelly Belly factory in Fairfield, Calif., offers free guided tours of the working factory, a massive retail shop, and a cafe with bean-shaped pizzas and hamburgers. Visitors can earn a degree in beanology and learn little-known facts about production.
