Papa Murphy's reported a 4.6% rise in comp-store sales for the third quarter, boosting company-owned store revenue by 8.4% from a year earlier. The increases came despite record prices for cheese, partly due to the popularity of its Gourmet Delites pizzas, which use less cheese than other offerings.
Papa Murphy's CEO John Barr will step down at the end of the year, and current president Ken Calwell will become the new chief executive, the company said Tuesday. Calwell joined the pizza chain in June, after serving as Wendy's chief marketing officer.
Investors are looking at plans for a Mataura Valley Milk processing plant that could be in production by 2010. The company plans to produce instant whole-milk powders as ingredients in high-value consumer products such as infant formula and growing-up milks.
Years ago, more than 100 Farrell's Ice Cream Parlours throughout the U.S. were forced to close and one was left in California. Now, Parlour Enterprises, which owns the Farrell's brand trademark, plans to expand the concept again, starting in California.
