U.S. researchers used carbon-11 PIB PET/CT imaging to identify amyloid deposits in the brains of patients who showed no signs of cognitive deterioration or mild cognitive impairment -- a symptom usually associated with Alzheimer's disease. The finding presents "a window of opportunity to slow or stop the process," a researcher said. The researchers plan to monitor the study participants over time to gain more understanding of the link between brain plaques and the risk of Alzheimer's disease.
