The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reopened California's Martis Creek Dam to the public. It is built on loose glacial soil, has a underseepage problem, has two newly discovered earthquake faults trending toward it and is the sixth-riskiest dam nationwide. The Corps is considering options for repair. "Four or five alternatives of mediation, such as closing or fixing, will eventually be considered, looking at public safety, cost and environmental impact," said Dave Killam, Corps spokesman.
