After about one year without Advanced Placement courses in Scarsdale, N.Y., many teachers and students at Scarsdale High School say they prefer the new curriculum, which emphasizes advanced topics rather than memorization for AP exams, which are now optional. Officials say that fewer students are taking AP exams and scores in two subjects have dropped, but that more students are enrolling in the country's best colleges.
