Research in Motion surprised analysts Thursday, giving an upbeat outlook for holiday sales on its new BlackBerry smartphones, while reporting revenue in line with expectations and 2.6 million in new customer additions in the third quarter. Despite the poor economy, RIM said it was entering the holiday season with "strong momentum." But analysts also noted that RIM's aggressive consumer push has hit profit margins and they worried that sales could still slump if companies and shoppers move to conserve cash in the recession.
