In response to a USA TODAY analysis that found high levels of toxic chemicals outside of many schools across the U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., who is chairwoman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, said she plans to take action to ensure that the government monitors pollution levels outside of schools. The EPA and state agencies typically don't monitor pollution levels near schools, but Boxer, whose committee oversees the EPA, vowed to change that.
