The economic downturn has prompted some hotel operators to cut back on free toiletries, newspapers, coffee and other guest amenities. "We are cutting back on little things that the guests may miss, but I think they will understand why we have to do this," said Jim Ridenour, general manager of the Residence Inn Melbourne and Courtyard Melbourne West in Florida. "Everything we're doing has the primary focus of how can we do the least without impacting guests, keeping the service level the same and retaining our people so we don't lose any jobs."
