Marilyn O'Connell, a 24-year veteran of Verizon Communications who, as head of Verizon Broadband Solutions, played a key role in the launch of its FiOS video and Internet services, will retire at year-end, according to a memo sent to employees. In the note, O'Connell, named chief marketing officer of the telecom's landline division in 2006, said: "We took on incumbent cable competitors and made them respond to our game."
