Denizens of social networks and virtual worlds continue to treat themselves to online gifts that adorn their profile pages and avatars. It's generally believed the business of virtual gifts totals $1.5 billion per year worldwide and does not appear to be slowing with the recession -- in part because people are spending more time at home online and in part because the dollar amounts are so small. "People are thinking that they're sacrificing in other areas so I'll indulge here with a dollar," media analyst Charlene Li said.
