Following successful recent tests by Continental Airlines and Air New Zealand, alternative jet fuels appear much closer to reality. "We're looking at certification of a 50% bioblend in 2010 or 2011," says an environmental official at the Air Transport Association. Fuels derived from algae, camellina and switchgrass look promising, but ""I think jatropha is the first" to be used commercially, says one expert.
