Three-year-old Matthew Welling was cured of a rare bone disease, called osteopetrosis, after receiving two bone marrow transplants, the first from Steve Karas, a matching donor who signed up to the National Marrow Donor Program registry 17 years ago. Their story has inspired more than 1,000 of Karas' co-workers in Columbus, Ga., to sign up to the national registry.
