The controversial first phase of the U.S.-Mexico border fence is nearing completion, according to a spokesman for Customs and Border Protection. Workers finished 601 miles of the fence last week, with only 69 miles remaining to meet the goal set by the Bush administration. President Barack Obama said he wants to re-evaluate the project before fencing the entire 2,000-mile border between the two countries. About $3 billion has been put aside for the fence.
