Marabel Farms opened its first distribution center in the U.S. The California warehouse will eliminate exporters and middlemen for the company, which produces and supplies cocoa beans from the Dominican Republic.
A new study suggests that drinking coffee in midlife can reduce the risk for late-onset dementia and Alzheimer's disease. The risk was 65% lower among moderate coffee drinkers who consumed three to five cups a day.
The FDA released its final policy on biotech animals and said it will not grant marketing clearance for products derived from such animals unless they are first examined by independent experts at a public meeting. Exceptions include rats and other animals used in research, and the agency will post related data on its Web site. The guidelines "will ensure the products made available through this science will go through a rigorous and transparent review" prior to approval, an official with a biotech trade group said.
Mars has partnered with BBDO, New York, for a Valentine's Day push that will roll out its Green M&M's character. Ms. Green stars in a media tour today, appearing on about 25 local and national TV talk shows. The campaign also includes a Twitter feed to update fans on Ms. Green's activities and the launch of an all-green M&M's bag to highlight the company's belief in the color's aphrodisiac qualities.
