Three laws took effect Thursday in California that offer new protections for LGBT youths in the foster-care system and for LGBT seniors living in nursing homes and assisted-living facilities, as well as an expansion of anti-bias laws covering insurance and government services and activities. "We begin the new year knowing that all LGBT people, including youth and seniors, have better protections and rights than ever before," said Geoff Kors, executive director of Equality California.
