New Ogilvy Group North American Chairman John Seifert is charged with finding a way during the current downturn to remake the agency's key region, which in 2008 failed to make winning pitches in bids to snag Carnival Cruise Lines, Office Depot and Levi's, and lost its biggest new client, Wachovia, after it was taken over by Wells Fargo. "The assets -- hard and soft in North America -- are actually very good," said Ogilvy Group worldwide CEO Miles Young. "But I think what we need is someone to put it together. ... And to take it to market, package it, sell it on a North American basis. That's my brief to [Seifert], really."
