U.S. and German researchers compared the effectiveness of using 9-deoxy-39-18F-fluorodeoxythymidine instead of FDG as radiotracer for PET imaging of patients with acute myeloid leukemia. The researchers found that the "preferential uptake of 18F-FLT in leukemia manifestation sites indicates that molecular imaging of leukemia based on deregulated cell cycle progression is feasible."
