More than 500 ninth-graders in a Tucson-area district won laptops of their own by attending at least 95% of their classes, earning a 2.5 GPA, participating in extracurriculars and avoiding school suspensions. Sophomores, juniors and seniors who earn 3.5 GPAs and fulfill the other requirements will also earn laptops after their third quarter. Sunnyside Unified School District superintendent Manuel Isquierdo hopes the program will help push the graduation rate up.
