January's year-over-year traffic declines continue unabated. Dallas-based Southwest Airlines saw revenue-passenger miles fall 6.4%, while crosstown rival American Airlines was down 11.7%. Traffic at US Airways slid 6.2%, and Alaska Airlines carried almost 10% fewer passengers. Despite the declining traffic numbers, smaller carriers, including US Airways and Alaska, have seen load factors increase because of capacity cuts.
