TCHO, a high-tech bean-to-bar chocolate maker in San Francisco, is working with the Peruvian market to pilot new ways of curing beans and building new software to analyze cacao. The company plans to serve the professional food market.
The CEOs of Sara Lee and Kraft Foods face challenges, as international growth and consumer spending at home are hampered by the continuing recession. "It seems like one issue or another keeps arising," one analyst said.
Kraft Foods is adding flavors to its successful Jell-O pudding and will no longer sell Handi-Snacks at-retail. Other companies, including Sara Lee and Heinz, also are cutting the number of products they offer.
