Two Arizona high schools are trying to entice more Hispanic freshmen to consider college by tying academic and extracurricular preparatory activities to the traditional quinceañera rite of passage for 15-year-old girls. The clubs, which are for both girls and boys, "create a college-going culture," said Elizabeth Arnot-Hopffer, associate director of a University of Arizona project to encourage more students to attend college.
