Heart attack patients have a 42% reduced risk of dying if they are promptly treated by physicians and hospitals experienced in percutaneous coronary intervention, study results showed. Best outcomes were found at hospitals that annually did at least 50 PCI procedures, which include angioplasty and stents. Better survival also was linked to physicians who did at least 11 PCI procedures in a year.
