The wireless industry is gravitating toward social networks, as industry players are seeing value in the Facebooks and Bebos of the world. A number of vendors have completed deals with Web-based social-networking sites recently, and a MySpace executive said the site's number of wireless-based users had quadrupled in the past year to total 20 million members.
Canoe Ventures -- the interactive and addressable advertising cooperative created by Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cablevision, Cox Communications, Charter and Bright House Networks -- is on track to release its first product despite the economic recession, according to Comcast COO Steve Burke. "We're bringing out our first product, Creative Versioning, this spring and we have two or three other things that are getting very close to being in the marketplace and launched," Burke said.
Disney has purchased Kerpoof Studios for an undisclosed amount. Kerpoof technology, including online tools that let kids make artwork, write stories and even create short movies, has already been integrated into Disney.com.
