States plan to use funding from the federal economic stimulus package to build bridges and highways, repair rural airstrips and levees and improve local water systems, among other things. In Missouri, Kevin Keith, chief engineer at the state DOT, said there are more projects on his state's list than the stimulus plan will cover. Illinois plans to use funding for bridges, public transit and water projects. Meanwhile, the legislation provides about $70 million to help repair deficient levees along the Rio Grande.
