Trying to play catch-up to such smartphone rivals such as Apple and Research in Motion, Microsoft over the next 18 months will be developing its own branded "Windows phone." As part of its new mobile strategy, Microsoft on Monday is set to launch an online app store and a My Phone service that allows users to sync photos, contacts and other content to a Web site, from which the data can be linked to a PC or any Web-enabled device.
