Some contractors are using a new process called underseal on paving projects. Aimed at preserving a road's pavement, underseal prevents slippage between old and new pavement and is used instead of an asphalt tack coat to bond existing pavement and an overlay. In Texas, a paving company recently installed underseal and overlay on a section of highway between Austin and Dripping Springs. The project manager noted that the pavement scored highly on a ride index test.
