A review of music lessons in England's primary schools -- where every student has the chance to learn an instrument -- has found that about half of the lessons are inadequate, and many students fail to excel at playing music as a result, according to Ofsted. "However, inspectors found that increased activity was not necessarily leading to improved music provision. Too much was being developed in isolation, and initiatives were not always reaching the schools and teachers that needed them most," said Christine Gilbert, Ofsted's head.
