Marilyn McCarthy and Elizabeth Pascoe both have been donating Rh-negative blood for more than 20 years to help pregnant women with rare blood types prevent a fatal condition known as hemolytic disease of the newborn. Rh-negative blood is an important component of a drug called RhoGAM that is injected in women early in their third trimester and soon after delivery to prevent their babies from developing the condition.
